01 L vs. 02 S2000

My stock 01 never has a problem beating the local S2000's. I'm not sure if I've run into a 2002 (are there performance increases?) but they are poor drag racers. They only make power above 6000 RPM and who wants to drop their clutch at those RPMs anyway. They are quick once they are on their way, but they have yet to catch me after a decent launch in the L.

DISCLAIMER: I do not promote or encourage street racing... :)

Here's MSN's performance figures: 6.7 seconds and 15.1 in the 1/4. Those seem kind of slow and I know the cars are faster than that. Just not as fast as the L.

Thanks. Pretty much what I figured and what others are saying. My friend just bought one and says I will win off the line but he will take the 1/4 run. I didn't think this made sense so I thought I'd see what others have experienced.

I know they are good in the corners so he would win there.

Not even close....you'll crush him. They are nice little cars...but Honda forgot to ship the Torque over with them. Unless it's bangin' 7-9K rpms, they've got NOTHIN'.

However, I wouldn't follow one up a curvy stretch of road....he will run off and leave you. ;)

They're neat little vehicles, and I've got nothing against them (except their pricetag) or other Hondas (I drive an 89' Accord to work everyday)...but they just can't hang with a Blown 5.4L vehicle in a straight line.

I actually argued with the local Honda rep at the Motor Trend car show last week. He was talking to a woman that had asked him about it. She apparantly never saw it before. He went on for about 5 minutes as to why it was the best car for the money and nothing else comes close. After he was finished, I very rudely said (yes, I was rude and loved it!) the Lightning is the same price, if not cheaper, plus it out performs it. He says that it's in another class and not even comparable. (which is true, but I'm an arguer and a sarcastic S.O.B.) I said "oh yeah, the Lightning does only have two seats. Oh wait a minute, so does the S2000. Then I said, well the S2000 does make 240 bhp, and the Lightning 380, so that's another difference. But, the Lightning is over $30,000. Oh wait, so is the S2000. I have heard good things about them on road courses though. Oh wait, nope, that was the Lightning also." He's basically smirking at this point and looking at the woman when I finished up and said "Go save yourself some time and money and go check out the WRX in the Subaru display. I don't have time to go into why that's a better deal than the S2000."
I got some crap from my girlfriend as to why I can't just keep my mouth shut, but who cares. I'll never see him again, and maybe I did save the woman about $7,000. Who knows. I had fun. Even though it's their job, I just hate it when a dealer or salesman doesn't tell you all the facts, or believes you think you know nothing except what they tell you.

I went to the car show here in Buffalo with my GF and made a few comments to a guy...this guy was a buyer though. He was making some rude remarks about kids (my ageish late teens-early 20s) sitting in the cars messing around all day. They had been in a caddy for a few minutes. So I said basically that they were here for everyone to see and he said yeah i gues sor something so i said well i guess we are not all high paid buisnessmen like yourself.

I didn't go into details about my truck costing more then the particular caddy they had interest in.

They were trying to get something to work cause when they sat in it one guy would run to the front, then back to the drivers door and say no try it again and then run back to the front.

I honestly think the one sitting in the car was a little....well..."special" My gaydar was picking up a bogy in the area, lol.

My GF that it was funny and she got a rush from it though, :)

Most stock S2000's go through the traps at 94-95 MPH. Unless you decided to take out 40-50 horses from your vehicle, there is no way you're going to lose to an S2000. That's stock vs. stock. Amen to what the guy said about S2000's on road courses, they are nasty there. I got a race prepped Mustang, still got the stock engine, but full suspension, brakes, tires, etc., and unless I'm having a very good day it's difficult to get away from a competently driven S2000. Just a sweet car in the twisties.
