Trying to decide what to do with what's left of my 95!

I have always heard the L E4OD is different than other trannys, is there a big difference like 4R100 internals? Going to go through mine and buddy was asking about differences.

Chris Garrett uses 97-02(I think 02) diesel internals for higher HP builds, but as far as I know no major differences in the E4OD of the same year. Others will know for sure

Not that I'm aware of. And the 4R100 was just a name change - nothing was changed in the transmission. Gas E4ODs/4R100s have fewer clutches than diesel E4ODs/4R100s, and there were many changes to the E4OD from '89-95 (plus a few more afterward, even before the 4R100 name was applied). But I've never heard of anything specifically different for the L.

The E4OD itself went through a lot of evolution and from my understanding the 4R100 just continued that. I know when my E4OD was built, it was updated with 4R100 internals, six-pinion billet planetaries and such. ATO claimed I couldn't hurt it, and 20 years later that's stayed accurate.

There's a bigger difference between the '93/'94 E4ODs and the 4R100 than the '95, which was rollerized and had more substantial bearing supports. So, in short, if you plan on substantial power, it's worth getting a '95 updated. If not, it's already about as tough as a 4R100.

@BONESTOCK and @FlatOut have both converted their trucks to manual (and plenty of others). If I ever have a transmission issue with my '94, I'll swap it. I'd love a 6-speed in it.

A manual tranny would be awesome but with trying to rebuild the truck on a budget, probably not as I don't think the M50D would live but is about all that's around here used in trucks that would be a doner for mine.

Just got done pressure washing everything.

Now's the time to finish taking it apart and have it powdercoated! Then get the drivetrain back in good shape and you're all ready for a Lightning body, sooner or later a nice roller will come along.

all things considered that all looks pretty good still. clean and paint/powdercoat everything you can.

Was that front sway bar crossmember bent before the fire? Did the fire get all the way back to the filler hose & rollover valve?
When we pushed it out of drive thru it ran over the curb and slammed into rock in ditch it bent both fog light brackets and guard for sway bar. Frame measured ok.

That frame is pristine - trucks in the north are in way, way worse shape. Get some kind of protectant on it because it'll rust easily after exposure to heat.

When I got my '94, the "skid plate" crossmember was bent like that. I just got a body shop to straighten and true it for me. Fog light brackets were bent, too, but I got them straight enough with a bench vise and a pipe wrench.

How many miles are on it?

Fire was in the bed cab back but it got hot enough to melt hoses on top of tank as Bed liner burnt. Still gas in both tanks

Got heads off motor today. Not too bad for 280k never been into it. Check out aluminum under valve on head, pieces were laying on top of 5 & 6 pistons. NO ring groove at all on cylinders!

Will this Explorer intake run on my Lightning lower intake? I see it puts throttle body on other side but I’m sure that’s not a huge issue.

Yep. You can put the throttle body on whichever side you want. The other parts are just hosed in.

Scored an Explorer GT40 upper and lower for $40 I part closer!

If I find a 94-96 F150 with mass air does it have to be a 351w truck? Will MAS EEC run 302 or 351?

Thanks for all the info guys!

Has to be for the E4OD. Firing order is different, so you'll have to tweak the injector wiring for maximum benefit, but it'll run fine as is.

I thought the later 302 and 351 ran same firing order! Thanks for the info.

Has to be 94-95. Ford went to OBD II in 96.

Only the 302 H.O. has same firing order as 351, so 302 donor would have to be Mustang or Mk VII - the “regular” 302 had different firing order.

Best MAF PCM for our trucks is the AKC0 that came with the FMS kit for the Lightning, but you could also use the BIO0 PCM for regular 94-95 Bronco/F-Series 351s with E4OD. I've heard that there are other PCM catch codes for 94-95 351/E4OD, but don't have the #s.

Got just about everything off the frame. Going to get a spray on rust converter next then ready to paint frame.
