Budget 5sp swap

Does it ever end $$$$
So I decided to do a swap using a wct5, not ideal trans. I haven't touch the truck in 2.5 yrs due to moving out of NJ to NC and building a new garage, house remodeling. Using as many replacement parts as possible. Luke flywheel 28oz, Dorman master, 280z slave. Amazon shifter base, found a tubular trans crossmember for a Chevy truck off amazon, humps upwards and I am able to ge rid of the bulky factory crossmember, does need to be modified some. Made a mount for the slave and cut down the clutch fork for a better angle to slave. I have already done a swap like this when I had an 87 ranger with a lightning motor and t5 trans. Only thing different is the master. Hopefully the master and slave play well together. Few of the pieces I have picked up so far. Lower shiftboot for a mustang. Master cylinder, shifter base and a trans crossmember for a Chevy pickup, does need to be modified alittle, too narrow.20240410_182949.jpg

It's a duplicate of the setup I had in my ranger, that had a lightning motor and a t5, so I know it works. Only thing different is the master cylinder. Hope the master and slave work together.

A t5 is usually a good shifting trans. I don't know how much it will like the weight of a lightning, especially if you hop up the engine much as they make pretty good torque stock. Nothing beats rowing gears on the street tho.

What's your plan for getting reverse lights? When I got my truck they didn't work.

I was able to get a transmission harness out of a 1993 manual f150 and swap that into my truck but not sure if the t5 connector is the same.

Engine has a small crane cam, 1.7 rr and Mac headers. I will be nice to it, if it doesn't out, will upgrade. I will figure something out for reverse if needed.

I'm curious to see where the shifter comes up at in relation to M5OD shifter location.

I think the M5OD is the way to go in a truck. Some of the WCT5s have ratios that I think would be OK, some I think would be terrible. The M5OD gets a bad reputation because people don't take care of them, but I've never seen or heard of one legitimately breaking; they fail from poor maintenance practices.

How do you like the M5OD R2? I got one for my truck any engine mods?
The ratios are great. The issue is if you power shift it the forks wear out pretty quick.

So I wouldn't plan on beating the crap out of it if you do the swap.

Motor is stock on my truck, we'll see what happens after the rebuild.

I powershifted mine for a few hundred thousand miles and had no issues. I've also got a 1-2 shift fork in my garage from a granny shifted truck that's worn out. Sounds like maybe they just had a bad batch of shift forks.
